An exciting new project to screen African films and the latest Hollywood releases in the townships is underway.The eKASI CINEMA CAFÉ digital cinema concept will be a township-based movie theatre dedicated to screening independent films from the African continent and its Diaspora, the developing world as well as the latest Hollywood releases. The single screen cinemas will seat 150 people, use 2K DLP cinema projectors, digital servers, Beta SP, DVCam and DVD screening capabilities and a state of the art sound system for both film and live music performances.The eKASI CINEMA CAFÉ consortium will amongst other things spearhead the installation, training, film content procurement, marketing, servicing and upgrades both over the roll-out period and onwards, says Motheo Seleke, the key force behind this initiative. Plans are currently underway to officially launch the eKASI CINEMA CAFÉ digital cinema concept at the 7th annual Aluta Film Festival in February 2010. The Aluta Film Festival is South Africa’s premier township cinema event. The eKASI CINEMA CAFÉ will incorporate an advisory board, primarily made up of international and national stakeholders from the film industry, business, government, media and government funding agencies.
