Whitney Houston almost gave up plans to record a comeback album to “live on an island and open a fruit stand”.Houston, who is giving away the first single from her much anticipated comeback album for free, will release her first new material in more than seven years when the album I Look To You is released on August 31.
At a listening party for the new album in Los Angeles - featuring celebrities Halle Berry, Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys and Jane Fonda - Houston said she almost “called it a day”.
“I had other plans, about three years ago, to live on an island and open a fruit stand and do my own little quiet thing - just raise my (daughter Bobbi Kristina) and call it a day,” Houston, the ex-wife of Bobby Brown, said.
But record label honcho Clive Davis put an end to her tropical fantasy.
I got this call from Clive, and he said, ‘Well, no. That’s not what you’re going to do’,” Houston recalled.
